Craig Kilborn Speaks in a Talk Show News Exclusive: He's Retired

After asking "Whatever happened to Craig Kilborn?" in a post that's become the #1 most viewed on this blog, I finally succeeded in tracking down Kilby's representatives so I could ask them for a statement on what the former "Late Late Show" and "Daily Show" host is up to these days. Here's the news, and it's not looking good for fans hoping for a comeback.

When Craig Kilborn gracefully exited late night he referred to it as "early retirement" and he wasn't bluffing. Mr. Kilborn spends his days restoring his 1927 Spanish home in the hills, listening to Miles Davis, and drinking moderately priced red wine. "Is $70 a bottle expensive?" asked Craig. "I've kinda lost touch."

Are we sure this is a new quote? I seem to remember him saying something similar a few years back.

Whether it's 100% new I don't know for sure, but I didn't get any hits when I Googled a couple of the phrases, so I'm pretty sure this is the only place it exists on the Internet...

Craig was never a talent of any kind. A lame comedian, an uninterested interviewer, an uniformed sports talker.

wrong on all accounts mr. miserable, kilby is naturally hilarious, was the best interviewer in late night, and knows more about the nba than anybody.
    come back dear craiggers!!!

This is where the quote is from

Well, then I guess it's a non-exclusive. I wish his publicists could have come up with a fresh quote, but maybe Kilborn is retired from speaking to the media!

Anybody know that is Kilborn still doing speaking engagement?

No.5 doesn't know anything, Sportscenter; The Daily Show was on point and needed him there and his position at his former late show showed a happy and healthy individual who had a rapport with all the happening guests

Miles Davis and Wine? A decade ago it was Jobim and cigars.

    "Is $70 a bottle expensive?"

Oh give me a break! Not only his he a douchebag, he's also a cliche.

it can't be a cliche if only kilby says it. take your anger away from this positive website. and why do you know what he said a decade ago? are you a tortured fan?

    kilby rules!! superior taste!!

God Bless Craig Kilborn, he is a great American. If you have love for Craiggers join the facebook group "I miss craig kilborn like the desert misses the rain"- it is by far the classiest of his online fan groups and he told me personally he wants you to join it.

Craig Kilborn always struck me as unusually hostile and smug, even for a talk show host. I was glad to see Conan destroy him in the ratings.

On November 22, 2007 this article was posted on http://www.theonion.com/content/news/gin_soaked_craig_kilborn_shows_up

Craig Kilborn, the former host of The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn, actor from the film The Benchwarmers, and SportsCenter anchor from 1993 to 1997, was spotted at 5:30 a.m. this morning broke, homeless, and passed out in front of ESPN's SportsCenter studios.

This doesn't sound like retired to me, more like down on his luck.

I would like to see him come back to late night talk tv, get rid of Jay and Conan and give Craig Kilborn the spot!

Anonymous #16, notice the source -- The Onion, the satirical newspaper/web site. That is not real.

Kilborn left the show because they would not let him have a band- even Kimmel has a band now, so I'm glad he left on a matter of principle. We probably should also be asking where is Alan Havey since he preceeded Kilborn with a talk show on old Comedy Central which was pretty damn good with co-host Nick Bakay (he created the first comedy sports spoof show- Sports Monster which was awesome funny but got pulled because it was too funny when they made jokes about coach and St. Jimmy Vee).

Kilborn would come back if he needed too. But he was a bit too cool for hot and sappy US TV.

Did you really cite the onion as a news source?
