Jay Leno to sit down with Oprah

Jay Leno is beginning his rehabilitation tour. His image has taken a beating during the latest Late Night War, and he's turning to the Queen of Daytime TV -- Oprah Winfrey -- to get his message out.

Winfrey announced on her show today that she is flying to L.A. to interview Leno, according to the Associated Press. The program will air next Thursday.

In other Leno news, the comic has been tapped to headline the White House Correspondents' Dinner in May -- the same venue where Stephen Colbert and Wanda Sykes have made headlines in recent years for their controversial routines.

To me, it doesn't seem fair for Leno to sit for an interview while Conan is prevented from doing so by his deal with NBC. I hope Oprah mentions the gag order during this show. And I hope Jay doesn't lament the loss of his friendship with Conan because I won't buy it (just as I don't buy it that he laments the loss of his friendship with Dave).

Leno is doing the interview with Oprah to repair his image. Oprah has always been on Leno's side and I guess it her way to stand by her friend. Don't expect her to ask Leno any questions that will put Leno on the spot or make him look bad. It would be a very boring interview.

Interesting that 24 actress Mary Lynn Rajskub told Conan a week ago that he should get an interview with Oprah. It appears that Leno is always a step ahead of Conan.
